To whom it may concern

                                                                                                -Meher Wan

It becomes a matter of great pleasure in one’s life to serve the humanity or the motherland by just working in a very small room, solving complex mathematical equations and producing valuable results. Sometimes, problems of deciphering the codes of nature become severely complex and person becomes obsessive in the quest of right answers. Being obsessive in this process is not unbelievable because he is not in science by any force but by the choice. He could be in some other services with the same dignity if he has chosen some other profession. He could be a painter or writer or even in administrative services. The first Nobel Laureate of Physics in Asia was initially an Auditor in government services, but he became researcher by his choice, struggling with his primary job and doing research in night hours. We acknowledge his work as Raman Effect now and whole world has enlightened itself with the consequential discoveries of Raman Effect. He might have enjoyed the worldly entitlements, given to an officer by the governments and remained satisfied with his job of an auditor.
Whole world is talking about the knowledge based economy; countries are investing a huge budget in hiring and attracting the eager young minds towards their countries. The nations are struggling to support the research and development for the solutions of many small or big problems. Many countries like China and Japan could make a decent and worth following progress by attaching the wheels of research and development in the cart of national progress. Big or small companies are starting the innovative ideas producing cells in their ventures. In the crucial stage of career, where we young fellows are on the verge of choosing the right profession to live a satisfactory and happy life, the national events are of much importance because these events help us in making decisions relating to our future. Nations feel proud because of the achievements by the youngsters. But feeling proud only is not the appropriate response to the researchers or the innovative minds. We often seem to ignore the fact that researchers are also human beings with soft emotions and breakable heart.  The ongoing national scenario, related to sacked ISRO scientists is matter of deep despair for us who are preparing our self to opt the field of scientific research with grand dreams. This despair is simply not just a short term emotional reaction or some biasing without analyzing the events. This demoralization has reasons in the minds of youngsters to older scientists.
The first question is what this society does expect from the really motivated scientists? Innovative ideas based new discoveries or management of the greedy demons, who have direct economical interests from the ventures. When science is making outstanding and fast progress, doing science is not remained a child’s play. Strong competition in professional researchers worldwide created much complexity. In this scenario, a scientist can’t perform both tasks of being good researcher and a good manager of greedy demons. That is the main reason; every scientific organization has administrative divisions who manage economical matters. National scientific advisors, administrators, economic tycoons and scientists make decisions with the help of each other. Since, national prime office also was aware of every decision and has signed on the papers of Antrix-Devas deal as reported by The Hindu, only scientists should not be the responsible for the case. Resignation of eminent aerospace scientist Roddam Narsimha from Space Commission, who was reviewing the discrepancies in the Antrix-Devas deal created much suspense in the story. Nobody is expecting that scientists should not be prosecuted for their wrongdoings, but at least the wrongdoings should be clarified in a legal way first and real responsible authorities should accept their responsibilities and duties too with the scientific researchers in any case. This case has raised serious questions about doing science in present national atmosphere before the researchers and also pointed out serious responsibilities of the common public, administrators and leaders in the proper and fruitful functioning the scientific organizations and institutes. We, research students are waiting for the appropriate actions against right and responsible authorities and hoping for justice in a democratic country.
